Churches for Middle East Peace

Established : 1984 Website :

Vision - Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) works to encourage US policies that actively promote a comprehensive resolution to conflicts in the Middle East with a focus on the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.

Mission - CMEP works to mobilize US Christians to embrace a holistic perspective and to be advocates of equality, human rights, security, and justice for Israelis, Palestinians, and all people of the Middle East.

CMEP is a coalition of 29 national Church communions and organizations in Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, and Evangelical traditions. Each of these communions and organizations is represented on the CMEP Board of Directors, which sets CMEP’s mission, positions, and policy. Decisions are made by consensus of this group.

CMEP began its work in 1984 believing that the policy perspectives and experience in the Middle East of our member communions and organizations should be better known and directly influence U.S. foreign policy. Our work is based on the understanding that sound and holistic U.S. policy is crucial to achieving and maintaining just and stable relationships in the Middle East.

CMEP helps church organizations, leaders and individuals nationwide advocate in a knowledgeable, timely, holistic, and effective way to express their concerns about justice and peace for all peoples in the region. CMEP activists, board, and staff engage directly with policy makers at every level.

We invite you to learn more about CMEP and the work we do by reading our policy positions; public statements and letters; and learning who we are as organizations; partners; and individuals.
